Council for Green Revolution (CGR)

Council for Green Revolution (CGR), a Non-profit organization based out of Hyderabad, was founded on 22nd April 2010 (Earth Day), to work towards pressing environmental issues. The rapid erosion of greenery and degradation of ecosystems in semi-arid regions of Southern India gave the impetus for a positive, proactive, and massive green movement. This has been the genesis of CGR, which strives them to be committed green think tanks and catalysts for change. It works towards the conservation of nature and the promotion of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The organizations’ areas of work include local to global environmental concerns like loss of biodiversity, dwindling natural resources, desertification, pollution, climate change, environmental security, etc. Local concerns, SDGs, and UN Conventions act as a guide in CGR’s work. CGR hopes to see a change in the mindset and actions of people towards the conservation of nature and natural resources through its effective initiatives. It is determined to impact the views on ecosystems, economy, and equity to a considerable extent.

Efforts so far

CGR largely worked in the semi-arid dry areas of South Indian states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. As of April 2018, CGRs work reached 12,485 villages in 14 districts in both states through its flagship programmes of massive tree plantation of 32,23,632 saplings involving 3,538 schools and 9,23,115 students.

Its conservation of Eastern Ghats campaign is a national level movement which spans across five states, i.e., Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Karnataka.

The Earth Leadership aspiration is being planned to be global in nature.

Approach

CGR thrusts on sensitization and creates massive awareness to catalyze proactive societal participation in safeguarding the planet’s life support systems.

Major component of organizations’ work revolves around school children and the youth, in order to create Earth leadership and contribute towards long term results. However, CGR works with all sections of society regardless of age, gender, social stratum and region.
