Prof. K. Purushotham Reddy

Chairman Governing Body of the Earth Center, Chief Advisor, Mentor and Chief Patron of Executive Committee for Council for Green Revolution (CGR).

It is a long and legendry span of nearly four decades of environmental activism. His work and affection mobilized huge number of individuals and organizations towards environmental protection. He stands to be the foremost icon of environmentalism; stood a synonym for it in telugu land. He has sown the seeds of environmental consciousness and nurtured the activist spirit across a vast social and geographic horizon. Prof. Reddy is the renowned Environmentalist, Academician, Activist and Political Scientist. Professor’s long public life and activism set across Environmental Policies, and Public Policies on Sustainable Development, Sustainable Agriculture, Urban Studies, and Restoration of damaged Eco-systems etc. He holds MA, MPhil and PhD degrees in Political Science from Osmania University. His PhD was on “Environmental Policy & Education-An Investigative Analysis of Eco-degradation of Patencheru in Andhra Pradesh.”

He held various academic positions in Osmania University as Professor, Head of the department, and Chairman Board of Studies in Political Science Department, Director for Centre for Environmental Studies. He is a resource person for many Universities and their Academic Staff Colleges, MCRHRD, AP Judicial Academy, MIT School of Government Pune, ESCI, and Center for Cultural Resources Training (CCRT) etc. He served as President, Osmania University Teachers Association (OUTA) Osmania for two terms.

He swung into action after Bhopal Gas disaster in 1984. He emerged as India’s foremost and well known environmentalist. His had a about 25 successful environmental movements such as Struggle against Nuclear Reactor, Struggle against Mechanized Slaughter Houses, Struggles against Industrial Pollution, Lake Conservation, and Struggle for water etc. He popularized the dictums such as sustainable development, think globally act locally etc. Professor is Founder President, Citizens Against Pollution (CAP), an Environmental Action Group established in 1985 and based in Hyderabad. New York Times on its February 6 th 1991 edition regarded CAP as one of India's leading Environmental Action Groups.

He was a Member of Expert Committee, Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB), First Board of Directors, Environment Protection Training Research Institute (EPTRI), Member of the Environmental Education Committee of the A.P. State council of Higher education, Expert Member of the A.P. State cloud seeding Project. He Co-authored book “Environmental Education” in 2002, Co-edited the “State of Environment in Andhra Pradesh- A Citizens’ Report” in 1990. He published more than 80 papers in National and International Journals. He has been the force and a fountainhead of inspiration for the movement of conservation of Eastern Ghats ecosystems and the publication of ‘Eastern Ghats Environment Outlook’. He encourages the youth and elevates the self-esteem of ordinary people to reach extraordinary reaches in their life and work. His remarkable ability not only empower people but also is connecting people and groupos for a common cause and collective struggle for a better world. He is a regular Columnist and speaker in media contributing articles and solutions on various environmental and developmental issues. Professor addressed more than 3000 meetings on various concerned issues. American Telugu Association (ATA) in 1992 has felicitated him at New York, for his monumental work of environmental activism and media.
