CNN - Vol. 4 No. 1 October 2021

Another Cyclone Gulab caused heavy downpour and flood in the last month. The climate has become unpredictable and frequencies and intensities of storms have become common. And Glasgow in Scotland is gearing up to host UNFCC COP 26. In the wake of latest IPCC report and its stern warning, we hope that the conference will make a difference. We wish there would be deliberation on the realities and all the parties will come to a firm determination to deal with this global challenge.

CNN - Vol. 3 No. 12 September 2021

IPCC, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has released its Sixth Assessment Report - 2021 of Working Group 1-The Physical Science Basis. António Guterres, UN General Secretary in a briefing felt that the IPCC Working Group 1 Report is ‘a code red for humanity’. It is a voluminous report contributed by thousands of scientist across continent. The reports say ‘it is unequivocal that human influence has warmed the atmosphere, ocean and land.

CNN - Vol. 3 No. 11 August 2021

Western Europe experienced two-month normal precipitation in just two days on 14th and 15th July 2021 causing flood havoc and loss of life in Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg. This was followed by an infernal and unprecedented heatwave in North America in previous months. People of Canada and the northern USA have experienced a kind of tropical summer heat up to 490C. It makes no more sense to ignore the warnings of the scientific community. We need sincere and urgent action to mitigate the disastrous effects of climate change. In India, monsoon fury is felt in some places, especially in the western part of the country.

CNN - Vol. 3 No. 10 july 2021

Monsoons are spreading over the Indian landmass. The showery season is on. In 1950, Vanamahotsava festival was started by the Govt. of India. First week of July was declared for this national green festival to inspire and involve people for massive tree plantation. We need to revive the spirit of the festival for a greener India. Haryana government announced pensions for trees above 75 years of age. We shall appreciate the declaration for respecting tree as a living entity and their ecosystem services. Let us hope the age-old trees all over the country are conserved with such incentives and measures.

CNN - Vol. 3 No. 9 june 2021

We have been exploiting and destroying our planet’s ecosystems for a long time and in a large scale. The profligacy led to the eventual collapse of ecosystems all over the world. The health of ecosystems is crucial for our wellbeing and sustainable development. The theme for the World Environment Day, 5th June 2021 is “Reimagine-Recreate-Restore”.

CNN - Vol. 3 No. 2 November 2020

Winter is setting in, crops in the countryside are ripening and some crops are being harvested. Cloud burst and incessant rain in the last month flooded Hyderabad city and other parts of region. Hyderabad city witnessed a great misery. Built environment that ignored the integrity of the terrain and its natural elements caused the submergence, devastation and loss of life. A thorough introspection and vision is needed to make the Hyderabad a livable city. And the vision and plans are not enough, it requires a determined implementation of the urban development. Hope the lessons will lead to such strong commitment.

CNN - Vol. 2 No. 7 April 2020

CNN - Vol. 2 No. 6 March 2020
