Greens Alliance for Conservation of Eastern Ghats (GrACE) is a conservation organization initiated by Council for Green Revolution (CGR), Environmental Organization, Hyderabad, for the cause of protecting the invaluable natural resource heritage of Eastern Ghats. It has been working on this subject since 2011. As you may be kindly aware that Eastern Ghats is a discontinuous range of mountains on the east coast of India is an important physiographic entity with immense bio-geographic, environmental, socio-economic, cultural and spiritual significance.
The ecosystems in Eastern Ghats are fragile, due to fragmented distribution and heavy anthropogenic pressure. Scientists expressed concern over the alarming degradation of the ecology and natural resources demanding immediate attention and called for action plans to conserve the hill range. Several movements, academic and scientific publications have brought the Western Ghats and Himalayas into limelight for conservation. Similar efforts yet to put in place to revive the pristine glory of the Eastern Ghats.
To build awareness among youth, intellectuals, academicians, public representatives and other people, we have organized several workshops, seminars and conferences in the five States - Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Tamil Nadu. We have also taken up massive plantation of saplings in the States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. GrACE organized academic conferences to encourage research and in-depth study of Eastern Ghats, in, Andhra University, Nagarjuna University, SRM University, SV University and Utkal University. Apart from the continuous desk work, research and consultation, GrACE has organized series of conservation expeditions into the hills to have a fresh look of the status.
As a continuation of the mission, GrACE has been in the process of preparing a document on Environment and Sustainable Development in Eastern Ghats. Following the report a Parliamentarians Conclave on Eastern Ghats is planned to be organized in Delhi. The report will be shared to all the MPs concerned in the conclave.
In this regard GrACE, earnestly request your valuable contribution, inputs in your subject and field area of expertise on Eastern Ghats which shall be furnished into the report. This report discusses the issues, suggestions, recommendations for the conservation of the natural resources of the Eastern Ghats for perpetuity. Your contribution in this aspect will be highly appreciated and sincerely be acknowledged in the report. The report is prepared with a focus on physical setting, ecosystems & biodiversity, socio-economic aspects, governance, conservation. The report is envisaged to process out a long term vision for conservation and sustainable development of Eastern Ghats. Hence, we seek your support and co-operation for this common cause and collective action.
Since the report is being prepared keeping in view of understanding even a common reader, scientist, policy expert, activist and all others concerned, we request you to be the partner of this noble cause. Any unique photographs, recent contributions if any may kindly be sent and will be published under your name and organizations.
GrACE also requests you to suggest and send the people and institutions working on Eastern Ghats for the purpose.
